Snowflakes start out as supercooled water droplets. As the flakes fall towards earth, complex shapes start to emerge in incredible detail and uniqueness. So unique in fact that for almost a century it was thought that no two snowflakes were alike. However, this was debunked in 1988 when a researcher discovered two identical “hollow column” snowflakes thus disproving the claim.
