Cute, elegant, and fun, tiny tattoos are definitely considered gateway ink. Meaning that if you decide you need one of these little fellas on your body, it probably won’t be your last. With summer right around the corner, there’s no better time than now to start turning those ink dreams into a reality. According to trends on Instagram, tiny tattoos will be everywhere this summer. Which is why I thought it fit to put together a smashing list of tiny tattoo trends for you to follow this summer. Below, 40 tiny tattoos perfect for this year’s sunniest season.

This necklace.

There are many ways to do necklace designs, but this example is definitely a first for me. As if it was emerging from the skin, this gold chain features a bluish semiprecious stone, capturing the reflections of its surroundings. My favorite part about putting together tattoo lists is discovering new and interesting design concepts like the one above.

This Queen’s crown.

Every Queen needs her crown. And if you can think of a cooler tattoo than this little crown featured prominently on the back of your neck while your stomach’s in the sand working on your tan, please send it to me ’cause I won’t believe it until I see it. King and Queen tattoos have always and will always be a popular concept—so don’t worry about this sexy little design going out of style.

This tiny diamond.

Diamonds are forever. And so are tattoos. So don’t make the mistake of getting something you’re going to regret later in life. Tiny tattoos are always a good option for those who really aren’t sure if they’re into tattoos or not. Removing tattoos is expensive and painful. Getting a small tattoo helps alleviate some of those burdens both now and later.

Nevermind.

Freshly inked an oh-so-beautiful, this stylish gradient fade encompasses all three of my favorite colors. Color gradients like the one above were everywhere these past few years—and I’m not just talking about the tattoo industry. The trend started in print copy and web design and was quickly adopted by the tattoo industry.

This butterfly.

A great artist can make any design look good no matter what the subject at hand. Now I’m not saying that butterflies are anything but desirable, but time has made it tough for some people to get past the cliche of this particular insect and the immense popularity it once enjoyed. This tat is proof that when well-executed, butterflies still reign supreme.

Jasmine.

As far as Disney characters go, Jasmine is about as beautiful as they come. Those big doh eyes and that endless pony are enough to bring any Disney Prince to his knees. So whether you’re channeling your inner Disney Princess or just believe in beauty by association, you could do a lot worse than a eyeless rendition of Jasmine from Aladdin.

This infinity heart symbol.

For many, ensuring that your tattoo is creative, hip, and totally original is a top priority. And I have to say, there’s nothing more rewarding than an original tattoo design which you can proudly say is one of a kind—to the best of your knowledge. This infinity heart is, well, let’s just say there probably aren’t too many identical copies floating around out there.

These spectacles.

Quirky. Odd. Cool. Original. This set of spectacles are almost too cool for school. Notice the subtle shadows the frames throw. Believe it or not, spectacle tattoos have been everywhere this year!

This cover-up.

by Piece

According to the artist, this clever little cover-up is a gold framed stone designed to look like a piece of vintage jewelry. But to me it looks more like a gilded port hole from the set of Guardians of the Galaxy.

These birds.

This popular trend is one that I’ll never get tired of seeing. So far Korean tattoo artists have created some beautiful renditions of this “birds in flight” design, which so far have all but nothing but spectacular.
